GloboTV is an online service composed by a platform and a consumer product to provide video access to tv programs of Organizações Globo, the largest media conglomerate of South America that owns and broadcasts almost 40 television channels in total, on the web.

Globo TV allows an average user watch high quality video content of his favourite TV program (like Big Brother Brasil) where and when he want.

The goal of the project was establish a destination to consume high quality videos produced by Globo.

APPROACH
We were a multidisciplinary team: one product designer, one (me) interaction designer, product owners and devs. We were asked to help define the strategy and design the user experience of the service: the platform to feed the product and also the product itself.

We began with several stakeholder interviews to understand the business model, goals and constraints of the project. We used two weeks on the discovery phase to explore the market, identify opportunities and review some expert analysis about the online video ecosystem. Basically feeding ourselves with data to support our decisions.
To find out the best interaction model, we wireframed the navigation system and the most important interactions. We also developed a high fidelity prototype with the goal to give the feel on how things would work for our stakeholders.

Faced with a complex brand architecture, composed by three levels of hierarchy, we had to guarantee a common user experience above all. We reached this goal by setting a clear and flexible design system which promotes the brand of the service (GloboTV) while each channel and tv program displays their own unique identities.

The product has just been released and is still in beta, to see the end-result access: http://globotv.globo.com

Interaction Design for a Top 10 app of news category in Brazil

The G1 news iPad app is a brief view of the most relevant breaking news, constantly updated with articles, video clips and photos.

With this app you can catch up on the latest stories in a variety of subjects including politics, business, art, entertainment, technology and environment. And also, if you are in Brazil, you can customize your location to keep in touch with the weather and latest news about your neighborhood.
There's a section exclusively about the economy which presents market data in real time from iBovespa (Brazilian Stock Exchange) and major stock exchanges, currencies, commodities and indexes. You can compare top gainers and losers of the day, and even create a watch list to monitor your stocks.

With a quiet reading experience, and an easy-to-use interface, this app is perfect to stay up to date with daily news.

APPROACH
This was my most important application for iPad, and early in the project I was making questions like: "how people use the device?", "which constraints we have to deal with and how to use them in our favor?", "how to ensure usability in a gesture device?", "how the information will be presented in each orientation?", "it needs to work offline?". Things like this.

We were a team of three, one designer lead, one visual designer and me as information architect / interaction designer, and had a short time to deliver the product.
We did a huge amount of sketches to find the best interaction model and came to three distinct approaches. Then we tried to realise which fitted better with the product strategy: a quick look at what is most important right now.

After establishing how the user will interact with the content and navigate between articles and sections, we produced a highly detailed prototype to show the user flow across the app.

We tried to create the best reading experience for the user, with less distractions than the current website has with clear understandable navigation, simple and explicit interactions with a nice, clean design.

Interaction Design for the online media platform of Globo Organizations

Producing a plethora of videos each week in real time, globo.com's Online Video Platform is a powerful tool set that allows the entire Globo Corporation and partners, to publish and manage media content on the web. From uploading and encoding, to media management and delivery of any video format for web and mobile.
As an Information Architect / Interaction Designer with a team of engineers and one designer lead, I conduct and implement a complete redesign of the platform based on a solid product vision and a better understanding of users context, behaviors and needs.
ROLE
Interaction Design & Information Architecture

APPROACH
An the early stages of the project we conducted research with current users of the previous platform to understand its context of use, identify main goals of the system and how they perform tasks to accomplish each of those goals. Furthermore, we collected feedback from technical support to know the most common user issues.

We analyzed this raw data and identified four main stakeholders of the system: video editors, video product managers, technical support and operations teams.
For each one I created a persona synthesizing their role, profile, domain knowledge, goals and tasks to help us address their user needs on the project.

With the product vision and all this user information combined, we sketched the overall experience of the product. I started from scratch, designing the user interaction model, user flows, screens and features on the UI.

During the implementation phase I did some front end development as well.

The most acessed WebPortal in Brazil

Globo.com is Organizações Globo’s web portal, the largest media conglomerate in South America.

With 55 million unique users and more than 1 billion pageviews per month, the globo.com front page is the most visited in Brazil. [1]

The page aggregates content from news, sports, entertainment and video categories, bringing the highlights of the G1.com.br,
Globoesporte.com, Ego.com.br and the programs of TV Globo, all high audience champions.

The main goal of this redesign was to emphasise the content, increase conversion rate and the overall audience, best incorporating the features of social media without losing the character of a media broadcaster.

APPROACH
To reach the goal we chose a mix of UX methods during the discovery phase to better direct our process, interviews with editors to understand content hierarchy, content features and variability throughout the day. Task analysis, to give us insights about how people perform tasks when using the homepage.

We also developed a set of personas, to keep us focused on our users. The discovery phase led to several design criteria that supports most of the product decisions: 1) prioritize content hand-picked by editors,
2) improve the experience of the authenticated user and 3) encourage content discovery, to name but a few.

To deliver the best experience following these criteria we establish a new user interface that brings the power of editors plus updates from the social graph of the user in real time.

Interaction Design for the portal of an brazillian federal institution of culture

Funarte (Fundação Nacional das Artes) is a federal institution of culture, created over 35 years. It is responsible for developing public policy that promote the visual arts, music, theater, dance and circus.

The main objectives of the institution under the Ministry of Culture, are encouraging the production and training of artists, research development, the preservation of memory and generate public interest for the arts within Brazil.
The goal of this project was to unify the websites of art departments into one single portal, making their archive accessible to the arts community and allow the institution to manage the life cycle of national art events through the site.

I was hired as an information architect freelancer by Funarte to help them create a new culture of internet use and redesign their entire online experience with one lead designer, two design interns and two developers.

APPROACH
The task to create a single destination for all art department was a big challenge, because its art department had a specific website, with its own structure and its own internal operation logic.

To achieve this goal, our approach was to understand the information structure of each department by interviewing curators and subject matter specialists to identify concepts and relationships between concepts of the given domain.

We developed a set of personas based on distinct aspect profiles revealed during interviews in the understanding phase.
We created five personas: The Artist, The Art teacher, The Spectator and two others related to the internal organization, to drive the design of the portal.

A content inventory was developed to organize the huge quantity of information, and guide the effort of journalists that were re-writing enormous amounts of content to adapt to the new language of the site.

I got involved in all phases of the project. From establishing the UX process, to giving presentations and from designing interfaces to coding them.
